The Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing issues real estate licenses for both salespeople and the brokers.  The licenses are issued by the Department after an applicant has completed required education, passed the licensing exam and submitted an application with payment to the Department.

Most applicants for a sales license must complete an accredited 72 hour course before writing the salesperson's exam.  Most broker applicants must have completed the education and testing requirements for a salesperson, then complete an accredited 36 hour course and pass a second test before they can submit an application to be licensed as a broker.

The Department of Regulation and Licensing makes final determination on educational requirements and may waive all or part of the 72 hour or 36 hour requirement based on previous education. Contact them at (608) 266-5511 for additional information, including possible reduced education requirements for those licensed in other states.

Both the salesperson and brokers exams are computerized tests conducted by PSI.   In Eau Claire, the exams are offered Tuesday through Saturday and must be scheduled in advance.  No previous computer experience is necessary to write the exam.   The exam fee is $96 for sales and $93 for brokers.  Contact PSI at (800) 733-9267 for additional information on registering to write either the salesperson or broker's exam.
